Water on the Floor? How to Tell If It's the Fridge, Washer, Dishwasher, or a Pipe
Water on your kitchen floor. Where is it coming from? Appliance leaks can be tricky to trace. Here's how to find the source (and whether you need a plumber or appliance technician).
Refrigerator Leaks
Water Pooling Inside the Fridge
Blocked defrost drain tube. DIY: flush with hot water. If that fails, call us (KSh 2,500-4,000).
Water on the Floor, Fridge Seems Dry Inside
Clogged drain pan (under the fridge) overflowing. Pull fridge forward, clean pan. Or blocked defrost drain tube — water overflows the pan.
Ice Maker Leaking
Water inlet valve leaking. Replace valve KSh 2,500-4,000.
Washing Machine Leaks
Leaking from Bottom (During Cycle)
Drain pump cracked or loose hose clamp. Replace pump KSh 3,500-5,500 or tighten clamp.
Leaking from Front Door (Front-Loader)
Rubber door boot torn or mold-compromised. Replace boot KSh 4,000-6,000.
Leaking from Detergent Drawer
Using too much HE detergent (creates excess suds). Use less detergent. Also check drawer is fully closed.
Dishwasher Leaks
Water on Floor in Front of Dishwasher
Door seal leaking or door not fully closed. Also check: loose hose clamp underneath.
Water Under Dishwasher (Pull It Out)
Inlet hose, drain hose, or pump leaking. Replace the leaking component. KSh 2,000-6,000 depending on part.
When to Call a Plumber vs Repair Ready
Plumber needed: Leaking from pipes behind the appliance, leaking from wall, low water pressure affecting multiple appliances.
Call us: Leak comes from inside the appliance itself (door seal, pump, valve, hose inside appliance).
"I had water under my fridge. I called a plumber first. He said the pipes were fine. Called Repair Ready. They found a blocked defrost drain tube. Fixed in 30 minutes." — Susan, Kilimani
