Samsung Washing Machine Error Codes: 5E, 4E, UE Explained (And How Much to Fix)
Samsung washing machines are everywhere in Nairobi. They're generally reliable, but they have specific failure patterns that owners should know about. Here's what breaks and what it costs to fix.
Most Common Samsung Washer Problems
1. 5E or dE Error Code (Drainage Problem)
Most common Samsung error. The machine won't drain. Often just a clogged filter (free to clean). If filter is clean, the drain pump has failed. Replacement pump: KSh 3,500-5,500.
2. 4E Error Code (Water Supply Problem)
Machine won't fill. Check: water supply valves (are they open?), inlet hose kinks, water pressure. If those are fine, the water inlet valve has failed. Replacement: KSh 2,000-3,500.
3. UE Error Code (Unbalanced Load)
Machine vibrates violently and stops. Usually just an unbalanced load (redistribute clothes). If persistent, shock absorbers or suspension rods have worn out. Replacement: KSh 4,000-8,000.
4. Door Boot Mold (Front-Loaders)
Samsung front-loader door boots are prone to mold in Nairobi's humidity. Leave the door open after every wash. Replacement boot: KSh 4,000-6,000.
Samsung-Specific Advantage: Self-Clean Cycle
Most Samsung washers have a self-clean cycle. Run it monthly with a dishwasher tablet to prevent mold and maintain performance.
"My Samsung washer showed 5E error. I almost called a technician. Repair Ready told me to clean the filter. It was full of coins. Machine worked immediately. Saved me KSh 2,500." — Lucy, Kilimani
